Vocational Education
and Training
Overview

Vocational
Education is a term used to describe education/training designed
to prepare individuals for employment. Vocational programs provide
students with the knowledge and skills needed in the workplace.
At Daramalan College we have developed a philosophy in Vocational
Education and Training (VET), which is about innovation and creativity.
About creating flexible, durable “learning organisations”
where we prepare students for their future, not our past. (Whitby,
1998)
Daramalan
College is a Registered Training Organisation. This gives the college
an added dimension and capability to offer students vocational courses
and training within the ‘Australian Quality Training Framework’.
Students who successfully complete a vocational course are awarded
with Certificates I and/or II their chosen industry areas.
Daramalan
College currently offers vocational programs in
Hospitality
Industry Studies
Hospitality
is one of Australia’s leading growth industries and employs
a increasing number of people in a range of occupations. Hospitality
Industry Studies provides students the necessary entry-level skills,
knowledge and attitude required for employment in this felid.
The
course has a practical skills component whereby students are required
to participate in industry based work placements. This provides
students with real life experiences within the hospitality industry
and is essential for their future employment.
Students
who attain the learning outcomes contained in this course will gain
a Nationally Recognised Certificate I or II in Hospitality Operations.
Students
who do not qualify for the Certificate II or I because they have
not completed all the on the job competencies will receive a Statement
of Attainment listing all competencies that have been achieved.
Students
should consider including a vocational course in their study program.
Through Vocational Education and Training students will acquire
a well-balanced and comprehensive educational passport with an academic,
vocational and enterprise portfolio that may open many doors and
provide interesting and rewarding pathways for their future.
